On Saturday, September 28, the Château La Coste, an art institution located in the Aix-en-Provence region of France, opens an exhibition dedicated to the work of Tunga.

The show, taking place in a gallery designed by Oscar Niemeyer, brings together works on paper, sculptures from the Morfológicas and Anjos Maquiados series, as well as one of the last installations conceived by the artist.

In this installation, which was first shown in 2015, the artist organizes recurring elements in his vocabulary, such as crystals, stones and leather, together with soil, the plant Dracaena trifasciata—commonly known in Brazil as "Saint George's sword"—, an anvil and a hammer. While the latter materials are associated with forging and ironwork, the plant refers to religious cults and popular beliefs, also evoking the patron saint of the city of Rio de Janeiro, where Tunga lived.

The exhibition also marks the second collaboration between Château La Coste and Tunga, now through the Institute dedicated to his work. In 2008, the artist created the work Psicopompos, a permanent installation at the venue.
