Tunga’s legacy is celebrated in three new exhibtions around the globe

Yo, Vos y la Luna, installation view | MALBA, Argentina, 202

Three new exhibitions dedicated to Tunga's oeuvre were inaugurated between September and November, featuring the artist's installations, sculptures, and drawings—some shown for the first time— at major institutions across Latin America and Europe.

The first exhibition opened to the public at Château La Coste, an art institution located in the Aix-en-Provence region of France. It occupies a gallery designed by Oscar Niemeyer and includes works on paper, sculptures from the Morphological series, and one of the last installations conceived by the artist. This is the second collaboration between Château La Coste and Tunga, facilitated through the institute dedicated to his work. In 2008, the artist created Psicopompos, a permanent installation at this location.

In October, MALBA —the Latin American Art Museum of Buenos Aires—launched Yo, Vos y la Luna in Argentina, curated by María Amalia García and Nancy Rojas and supported by collector Sarina Tang. Centered on the installation Eu, Você e a Lua (2015), originally conceived for the Château de Chaumont-sur-Loire in France and recently exhibited at the MAM in São Paulo, the show also includes a documentary about the work’s creation as well as a set of drawings.

Since November 5, Insituto Ling in Porto Alegre has been holding A poética de Tunga: uma introdução [The Poetics of Tunga: An Introduction], curated by Paulo Sergio Duarte.

Organized in collaboration with the Instituto Tunga, this exhibition celebrates the ten-year anniversary of Instituto Ling and gathers over 60 of Tunga's works, spanning different decades of his career. “Tunga is like a weaver, crafting a beautiful and unending tapestry; his work, which will never be complete, is composed of various interwoven and tangled threads,” writes the curator.
