Maxwell Alexandre brings the exhibition Novo Poder: passabilidade to Sesc Avenida Paulista, in São Paulo, from April 19. The artist creates large paintings on brown paper in which he portrays, in the foreground, black characters walking through galleries and museums, spaces that for a long time were reserved for the white elite. He thus operates at the intersection between the fields of contemporary art and fashion, taking them as platforms capable of offering dignity and self-esteem to individuals.
The series Novo Poder: passabilidade - which lends its title to the exhibition - began in 2023, during the artist's exhibition at the La Casa Encendida space in Madrid, and took on a new development in São Cristóvão, Rio de Janeiro, at the inauguration of the first Maxwell Alexandre Pavilion. This body of work now takes on a new form at Sesc Avenida Paulista through an ambitious installation of more than 50 works, all oil paintings on brown paper.
The exhibition runs through September 29.
