Maya Weishof (1993, Curitiba, Brazil) is among the Future Greats of the April issue of ArtReview magazine. The artist was nominated by Mauro Restiffe in this month's British periodical, which has a supplement dedicated to Brazilian art.
“Her paintings have an otherworldly character, which I think relates to our mythological heritage here in Brazil, but then it’s also mixed with these contemporary characters that you can easily recognise as perhaps being from our time. So there’s this mix of temporalities that never seems forced, operating on a single painterly plain" Restiffe tells editor Oliver Basciano.
In this same issue, Daiara Tukano (1982, São Paulo, SP, Brasil) names Paulo Desana as another Future Great — the annual section in which established artists are asked to name other artists who they think will be making waves in the following 12 months.
