ESCADABSTRATA

Ortega y Gasset

Since early on, I have always been accompanied by a sense of the explorer. I am excited whenever my curiosity is awakened by new quests and an appetite for meditations, clues, questions, queries, evidence of a mysterious science. This drive is what moves and intrigues me. At the same time, ever since my first studies, throughout multiple processes of learning and actualization, the idea and surprise of discovery have converged and led me to the place where I am right now. I enjoy walking, and I am always on foot, looking around. I believe that the spaces we traverse, the paths, roads, and streets, also have a mental nature. I am a voyager between sensible and imaginary worlds. What am I looking for? What do I want? What is my will’s desire? Perhaps one life is not enough to fully answer such questions, but I can start by saying that as I have rambled and wandered around phantasmic topographies, an indispensable resource has gradually taken root over time, underpinning and orienting me: the idea of displacement; where the genesis and nature of space become elements that cannot be dissociated from the act of thinking that nourishes and guides my interests. Thinking is also about producing space. This is the place I have reached.

Coordinates and apparitions. An investigation of a kind of microscopic scale of the imaginary. Records of unprecedented representations, perhaps. Sometimes, when we try to see what is before our eyes, we are struck by a troubling perplexity: whoa there, visual arts… Bringing forth the speculations I want to shine a light on produces perspectives where the nature of vision is the substrate for hypothetical configurations. Certain initial intuitive data provoke states of consciousness caused by a combination of points of view immersed in the unconscious. The orientation then emerges from something heard; poetry? A clue: “the spirit of direct action.” I attempt to contemplate some angles present in this adventure.

Escadabstrata. An incantation? Perhaps, but certainly a riddle-idea that contains a possible stage, level, or degree to be transposed and ascended. When this word is spoken, its sound, its music, transports us elsewhere, somewhere above and beyond, where there is a hypothesis yet to be revealed, immanent in its way. A vocation for transcendence. A helical askesis staircase. The spiral is found in places as diverse as nautilus mollusks and faraway galaxies, in a mindboggling succession of golden ratios and sequences that generate vertiginous correspondences between orders, forms, and movements. The spiral form translates an upward movement from an initial point, stages in a continuous process of development and transformation. An intermediate scale presents itself: a giant miniature of multi-scale mock-up? An object-idea.

The awe inspired by the sheer wealth of possibilities and considerations fascinates me; the study of place, a field opened up by imagination, moves me. The intersection of extraordinary associations, whether simple or bizarre, has become a fertile breeding ground where discoveries are made while inventing.
