‘ESQUIZOFRENIA DA FORMA E DO ÊXTASE – DRAWINGS’

Galeria Millan presents, from 10/20 to 11/10, the exhibition “Esquizofrenia da Forma e do Êxtase - Drawings”, by the artist Nelson Felix. The show occupies the hall and main room of the gallery and gathers for groups of drawings and one sculpture that reflect the actions of his fourth work from the series “Método Poético para Descontrole de Localidade”, which began in 1984.

Nelson Felix is one of the artists with an individual project in the 33rd Biennial of São Paulo, that opened on September 7th at the Pavilhão da Bienal in Ibirapuera Park, São Paulo. On October 16th, Felix opened at Galeria Reocupa, located inside the 9 de Julho Occupation in São Paulo, a show with the same name of the act performed by him in that building during the first weeks of October. Now he exhibits at Galeria Millan all the series of drawings made for the three places in São Paulo chosen for the accomplishment of this work: the Biennial Pavilion , the Galeria Reocupa - 9 de Julho Occupation and, finally, Galeria Millan.

“This work is composed of three moments: the first, an action in two points of America and, therefore, continental; then a synthetic piece placed in an external space in the city of São Paulo; and, finally, as an effect of all this, the series of sculptures made for the Biennial building.

My perception of the expository space is characterized by a tangle of questions, often disparate, even schizophrenic. What I understand as space today encompasses poetry and drawing. In this sense, I use sculptures, objects, photographs, actions, geographic coordinates, to build an idea of space that often does not only refer to the immediate location of the work, but also to the global space itself. His nature is not purely concrete; its basis is poetic. It is loaded with perceptions, meanings, history, feelings, desires, memories. An effort is  necessary by the observer. The work requires time for you to see its structure. In this work, I went to two places in America: Anchorage, in Alaska, and Ushuaia, in Argentina. The beginning and the end of two mountain ranges that I consider as one: the Rocky Mountains and the Andes. I see them, poetically, as a backbone of the globe. In this exaggeration of articulated elements arises a notion of landscape, a notion of space in which natural space, poetic operations and built space merge”, says the artist.
