About

The exhibition is composed of a set of seven two-dimensional pieces made with fiberglass and pigmented resin, with dimensions of 170 x 170 cm and a set of four similar works with dimensions of 130 x 130. In relation to his more recent works, in which the artist uses basically the same technique, the works presented now in the Gallery Millan have the peculiarity of being molded against the glass. Thus, its surface has a complete smoothness that generates a certain reflection and ends up emphasizing the transparency and chromatism of the works, partially neutralizing aspects related to the support and the matter.

Maia Rosa uses in these works solutions such as monochrome, gradients, the reference to black and white photography, and, in at least two works, parody formulations of a more expressive type of painting. Thus, he deepens in his poetics a process that the critic Gaudêncio Fidelis described as the “intuition of the pictorial body as a commemorative presence”. That is, since 1984, the works of Maia Rosa, their “fibers”, are for painting a bit like the guitar is for the guitar in MPB. The brightness and tone of his works bring an amplified energy that, far from denying the intimacy of traditional painting, celebrates it on another scale.
