New José Damasceno solo exhibition ‘Perpetual Motion’
Estação Pinacoteca
São Paulo, Brazil

The exhibition José Damasceno: perpetual motion, at the Pinacoteca de São Paulo is curated by José Augusto Ribeiro and is the first to bring together a representative number of works from the artist's career with pieces made between 1989 and 2021, including sculptures, drawings, installations and photographs.

The title of the exhibition refers to the idea of a device with perpetual and autonomous operation, without the need for an external factor. An utopia that has existed in humanity since the Renaissance and which, it was later discovered, runs counter to the laws of thermodynamics, formalized in the 17th century.

Damasceno's work includes permanent collections, such as Cisneros Fontanals Art Foundation, Miami, USA; Daros Latinoamerica AG, Zurich, Switzerland; Inhotim Center for Contemporary Art, Brumadinho, MG; Museum of Modern Art of São Paulo, SP; Musée d'Art Contemporani de Barcelona, Barcelona, Spain; and Museum of Modern Art, New York, USA.
