La Fumée (2022) by Maya Weishof (1993, Curitiba, Brazil) is now part of the collection of the Pinacoteca do Estado de São Paulo.
Incorporating a vast repertoire of images –from art history to pop culture– Weishof creates fragments of narratives full of distortions, caricatures and hybrid creatures, in which body and landscape reveal themselves as substance to each other. In her work, the artist explores representations of fear, desire, and the comic, as well as the seductive capacity of images in the human experience. As support, Maya uses canvases, different fabrics and objects, as well as incorporating sewing and drawing.
The painting was acquired by the institution through the work of its curatorial team and the patron program, which contributes to the recognition and visibility of the artist's work.
