Gustavo Caboco’s work is the subject of a critical essay
Select

Gustavo Caboco's (1989, Curitiba, Roraima) work is the subject of a critical essay by Ana Maria Amorim published on Select magazine's website.

It addresses how the Wapichana artist presents Bendegó —a meteorite that fell in 1784 in Bahia— in his work. "If the official report refers to Bendegó as a meteorite, with Caboco the term is replaced by grandmother of the earth," Amorim writes.

"The artist's works incite us to think of an archeology of the heavens and the earth, inhabited by organic and inorganic beings and forces, claiming the living existence of stars, snakes, colors, stones, ores, bordunas, and flames. It excavates the Eight Hundred and finds, many times, the present. Finally, the stone sings: the story is not over."
